Drugs and Alcohol Addiction is a universal problem. There are several ways to overcome it.
Delaware

Drug Addiction Treatment, Drug and Alcohol Rehabs Recovery and Abuse

Powder and crack cocaine remains increasingly available and popular in Delaware. Most of the crack available in the state is converted locally from powdered cocaine as needed.

Heroin is mainly available in northern Delaware. The increasing availability of low cost, higher purity heroin over the last few years has caused concern over a growing heroin use problem in the state. All socio-economic backgrounds have been affected by this. South American heroin is the most common type. Most of the marijuana found in Delaware is produced in Mexico. However, locally produced marijuana is also available.

Though methamphetamine is available in limited quantities in Delaware, it is a growing concern. Most of the methamphetamine available in the state is produced in Pennsylvania. High school and college students and rave club patrons are the main users of meth. MDMA (ecstasy) is mainly available at rave parties and nightclubs in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, particularly during the summer. It is very popular among teenagers and young adults on college campuses across the state.

Gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), the GHB precursor gamma butyrolactone (GBL), and ketamine are also available and are used widely in nightclubs. Oxycodone products are among the most frequently diverted and used pharmaceutical drugs in the state. OxyContin is more expensive and more difficult to obtain in Delaware. As a result, users of OxyContin are switching to heroin.

National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2003) shows that approximately 1.98% of Delaware citizens reported in the past year, their dependence on illicit drugs. In a survey conducted among high school students during 2003, around 48.9% of the students reported using marijuana at least once in their lifetime.

Alcohol Abuse

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2003), more than 53% of the Delaware population (aged 12 or older) reported the past month use of alcohol. More than 18% of the people in the age group of 12-17 years and around 63% in the age group of 18-25 years reported using alcohol past month. Among the people of 26 years or older the rate is around 56%.

In the survey, around 24% of the Delaware people showed binge alcohol use and around 40% reported perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week. In the age group of 12-17, past month binge alcohol use is more than 10%. In the state, 7.65% of the total population showed alcohol dependence or abuse in past year.
