Most of the marijuana found in Florida is produced in Jamaica or Mexico. Domestically grown and imported marijuana are also easily available in all areas of the state. Domestic indoor marijuana cultivation is a major industry in the state. During 2003, cultivated marijuana was identified in 54 of Florida's 67 counties.
Methamphetamine poses an increasing threat. It is commonly available
and abused in rural areas and in suburban and metropolitan areas as
well. MDMA is found at rave parties in all areas of Florida and is
frequently used in conjunction with other illegal or prescription
drugs. GHB is readily available in Florida, particularly near colleges
and universities. Pharmaceutical drugs, predominantly OxyContin and
Xanax, are widely available in all areas of Florida and a major impetus
behind the need for drug

Data from the NSDUH (2003) indicate that 2.02% of Florida citizens reported the past year, their dependence on illicit drugs. Nearly 8% of high school students surveyed in 2004 reported selling drugs within the past year. Among middle school students, 10.9% reported lifetime marijuana use.
Alcohol Abuse
According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2003), more than 52% of the Florida population (aged 12 or older) reported the past month use of alcohol. More than 17% of the people in the age group of 12-17 years and around 60% in the age group of 18-25 years reported using alcohol past month. Among the people of 26 years or older the rate is around 56%.
In the survey, around 22% of the Florida people showed binge alcohol use and more than 44% reported perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week. In the age group of 12-17, past month binge alcohol use is more than 9%. In the state, 6.86% of the total population showed alcohol dependence or abuse in past year.
